On July 14 2004, the French Business Council is organising its 10th annual Bastille Day Dinner in the region to celebrate French National Day and the Centenary of the Entente Cordiale between France and Britain (1904-2004).

25/06/2004 Jean Monnet Regional Lecture : Mansion House, Newcastle upon Tyne

The special Jean Monnet Regional Lecture will be given by H E the French Ambassador to the UK, Mr Gerard Errera on 25 June 2004. At the time of the celebration of the Centenary of the Entente Cordiale, the theme of this Lecture will be "The Present and Future Challenges for France and the UK".

01/04/2004 - 30/10/2004 Entente Cordiale Festival : North East

The French Business Council is organising a French festival in the Region to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the signing of L'Entente Cordiale. The Festival will take place in the North East region from April to October 2004 and will include a programme of cultural and business events. UPDATE ON EVENTS:

As part of Durham County Council's twinning programme with le departement de la Somme, a number of French performers will be taking part in the Durham City Summer Festival on 3rd and 4th July 2004.

The following groups of people are expected to be performing in the Market Place and Town Hall in the city:

Line (French Cabaret singer, songs by Edith Piaf and others); Francis Weill (acoustic guitar and singer, songs by Jacques Brel and Georges Brassens); La Bande, a 30 piece street musician group; and De Nada, a 5 piece rock group.

We are pleased to announce that a French Food and Drink Market will be held in Newcastle upon Tyne (Grainger Market) on the 3-4 December 2003. The FBC is working closely with Newcastle City Council and French traders to organise this event. We hope that all lovers of French food and drink will come along.

17/07/2003 Franco-British Regional Gala Dinner : The Rooftop Restaurant, BALTIC, Gateshead

Bastille Day is an annual FBC event which celebrates French national Day. This year's Bastille Day is sponsored by One NorthEast and easyJet and will take place on the 17th of July in the Rooftop Restaurant of the BALTIC. The French evening will include a three-course dinner, and guests will have the opportunity to view exhibitions by Antony Gormley, creator of North East landmark 'Angel of the North', and Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen. As with Cebit and the Hannover Fair in Germany, the French Business Council is supporting ONE NorthEast with inward investment activities at Biosquare in Lyon.
The FBC will liaise with French biotech companies interested in expanding or finding partners in the UK.

The French Business Council is assiting ONE NorthEast in attracting German companies to the UK at one of the biggest international fairs for the manufacturing industries, the Hannover Fair.

Working together with ONE, the Regional Development Agency in the North East, the French Business Council is attending the world's largest IT and telecommunications Fair.
In March, Sylvie Larocque and Wibke Baumann from the FBC will travel to Hannover/Germany to meet with French and, for the first time, German companies interested in the UK market.

Luncheon at Longhirst Hall on the 5th of March
The French Business Council is organising an event for the Regional Language Network NorthEast on the 5th of March, 12:00 - 14:00.
The event is bringing together Northumberland businesses trading internationally or seeking opportunities to improve their communications skills and competitiveness.

There will be networking between companies, language service providers and regional agencies such as Northumberland Business Link which can point the way to grant aid and other support.
